Today our orientation to camp host began. We were making sure that everyone had a ride to Wasilla. We hitched a ride with a guy from Holland, Ohio so that we didn't have to put down our camper. Another couple are hosting where they have to boat in and carry their supplies to a cabin; so they needed a ride, and another gentleman was having car problems...got him a ride, too.
This was where the orientation was held. I had another picture of the fire station, but somehow it didn't get onto my thumb drive that I put the pictures on to bring it into the maintenance building computer....and I'm not walking back out, firing up my puter, and dragging over the picture. So, rest assure that it looks like most other fire stations, except that it has beautiful mountains behind it.
This is Ranger John Weber. He is the head ranger for this whole huge area. Basically, he is our boss.
This was lunch....
This is Robin. He is in charge of Denali State Park, as well as water safety. He flies all over Alaska during the winter and educates the locals on water safety and the use of personal floatation devices (pfd's....remember those pesky pfd's in our boat?). This guy is so knowledgeable that he talked for an hour straight, never repeated himself, or said "uh". He just rolled. They have a program here that is called "kids don't float" where they have loaner pfd's on a board at every lake, for everyone to use and then put back. Nice.
And this is what we all looked like at the end of the day. They gave us shirts, jackets, water bottles, etc. They also talked a lot about fishing regulations: like what you can catch, where, how many, and on and on. Of course Chris was trying to suck this all up. It was greek to me.

Then we had another talk about how to clean the vault toilets....yuk. We'll see how that goes....
:-0
Another talk was on first aide, and how to handle different situations as they arrise. Like "call 911"
Another day of orientation tomorrow, and then we move to Willow Creek. Can't wait.

We'll post again tomorrow night....but won't be every day after that; only when I get back here to the maintenance compound.
So, until we "connect" again... ( I remembered this time, Jeanne....lol)
