Today we found the sun, though it may not last. We are in Destrtuction Bay, Yukon Territory. We left Alaska about noon. This is the beautiful sight of Kluane Lake that we could look at during dinner tonight.

I'm going to zip right through these pictures because they tell me that a thunder storm is comming and I want to get back to the camper....I guess the blue sky is deceiving.

Yesterday, when we left Willow, AK we said that we were in search of the sun....and this is what it took us 4 hours to get to....a little bit of sun. It has rained so very much; but yesterday for our volunteer picnic in Willow, it rained HARD all day.

This is a poster that I chose from several that are commemorating the 40 years of Alaska State Park system. This is South Rolley Lake, near where we were hosting this summer. Isn't this a beautiful picture?

This is the huge smoker that John uses for smoking his ribs. Yup, it's a propane tank. Chris just couldn't resist getting right in and helping...

I hope ya'll don't get bored, but the following are lots of people pictures, but they are friends now....and not easy to leave friends, you know. This is Diane Harris, the go-to person in the State Parks, the very first person I talked to when I inquired about volunteer hosting. Very nice lady.

The cake that Diane brought for us.

This is Laela & Jim, the other set of camp hosts whom we worked with this summer. They were fun to work with.

The wonderful DiMaggio family....and precious Riley standing in front of Daddy. These are the folks who opened their arms and home to us this past week end....nice family, sweet children.

This is Wayne Hoover, another host; just retired this spring and has no idea how to slow down. He's an absolute hoot!

These are blueberries and some red berry that I forgot what....Suzanne Yoder picked them and brought them to the picnic. She makes something very ordinary....special.

Here are our friends, the Yoders....and the munchkin on the left is Vic....the person who was our big help this summer if we needed something, etc. The Yoders look exceptionally good....for having to walk out from their hosting location, Redshirt Lake....three miles of trail.....in the pouring rain! They are super troopers!
I hope that I didn't bore you with the pictures....but these are some of the friends whom we left behind. They helped make our summer what it was....a fabulous experience. They are all special. (including some of the other folks whom I did not get in this issue of the blog....didn't have time for all, and some of the pics weren't that great).
Tomorrow we will be back in Alaska....in Haines, probably by noon or so. It's not far. But this is the only way to actually get to Haines.....you have to drive out of Alaska, through the Yukon, and then back into Alaska. Haines is in that little strip of Alaska that is along the coast, west of Canada. OK...just look at a map....you'll get it when you see it.
We will enjoy relaxing there, fishing, sight seeing, etc, until August 9, when we get on the ferry.
Don't know when we'll get WiFi.....so, until we "connect" again.....
