JUNE 9, 2010: WORK DAY AT CAMP

This is a picturesque view that someone might like on their wall. I think it's just perfect. It's, of course, out of order; but it is a bridge over Willow Creek on the Hatcher Pass road.
Chris spent most of the morning working on picnic tables and I was cleaning out fire pits. I do believe he took some pictures of this "bag lady"; you may see them at another time...

As we returned to camp from painting boards for picnic tables on Monday, we got out of the truck and I looked to the rear and a cow and calf moose were just crossing the road. I calmly told Chris to get Tommy as I got my camera going. The curious calf was so cute.

Mommy was UGLY….but she is a ferocious mother. Most Alaskans are more fearful of a cow moose than of a grizzley bear. So, dutifully learning my lesson, I stayed back and enjoyed these wonderful creatures.

Checking on her baby...

We kept seeing the "road closed" sign on the Parks Hwy for Hatcher Pass road. We decided to go and see how far we could actually go up. Turned out to be 16 miles before we got to this sign... This would make me think twice about forging onward on this road.

These pictures are of Willow Creek, which is the same creek that our campground is on. But where we are at is where the Willow Creek joins the Susitna River. I just thought that they were pretty pictures.

A small lake on Hatcher Pass.

This may only look like a ½ of an animal of some kind…but it is a porcupine...starting to get in his defense mode.
This is the “action end” of the porcupine ….which was facing right at us. I was afraid that we were going to find out first hand what these quills do. We were inside the truck taking this picture. Interesting view, right?
Going out to dinner tonight....at the "Burger Bus" with a couple of other hosts. They have to hike 3 miles into their cabin on Red Shirt Lake where they host. They are out for 2 days....then hike back in. And they are older than Chris and me! Will fill you in on their life after dinner tonight.

So....until we connect again....
