July 16; CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Whoever would-a expected this???? What fun. The activity person from the campground asked a couple of the maintenance guys to be Santa. But, being smart as they were, they went directly to the real Santa, and asked him to SAVE THEM! They were going to have to wear those hot cottom beards....and that would not fool these kids. So....it all came together in 90 + degrees. Surely not the temperature of the North Pole. Since the reindeer are on vacation in Alaska, Twin Mills gave us a golf cart and lots of candy.

The kids got right into the swing of it. Some campsites even had Christmas lights and blow up Santas (which normally make me gag....but it was cute this time)

At times we would turn into a camping area and saw a mob of kids converging on our sleigh. Was lots of fun, if not an exhausting one in the heat. We have Charlie and Dawson visiting, so Charlie got to ride in the rumble seat of the "sleigh".

This is a common site in this area....to see an Amish horse and buggy along the road, or parked in WalMart or Pizza Hut parking lots.....yes, parking lots here have hitching posts.

A very few are open buggies. I just love the Amish horses: they are sleek and move right along. Nothing fat about them....they are worked!

We see lots of Amish in the campground; which surprised me. I don't know what I expected....but it surely wasn't seeing Amish camping, swimming, fishing, etc.

One day last week, Chris and I went to the Menno-Hof museum in Shipshewanna, so that I could have some of my questions answered. It was most worth while and enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone in this area.

Our second cucumber! We have only 4 golf ball size tomatoes. Our midget garden is not really very proliferous. So I frequent the Saturday Farmer's Market in Howe.....right across from the ice cream parlor....easy to find.

Last Monday morning, a horrible and quick storm blew through here. We were in Sturgis shopping. When we came out of Krogers, we noticed that it was as dark as night outside. We headed for home, concerned about our awning on the camper.

Driving through the torrential rains, we arrived at the campground, 5 miles from Sturgis, when most of the storm was over. Our awning was fine since we have the corners "dog tied" to the ground. But other folks were not as lucky. One neighbor had his awning picked up and pulled apart; trees were down on the north side of the lake; roofs blown off. Limbs were down througout the campground. Quite a blow! We saw whitecaps on the lake. One bass boat that was anchored with a shallow water anchor that was drilled into the bottom of the lake, took water and almost sank. We took this picture from our boat.

Cruising the lake....Haven't seen their signets in a week or so; hope they didn't get eaten by something :(

Tommy is very comfy on the boat; she sticks her nose in the wind for a while; then she settles down to chill.

Our "salty dog"....

So ends another beautiful day at the lake....if not a scathingly hot one!!!!

This heat sure isn't like Alaska....but at least we get a breeze on the lake. Chris and I are wondering where the summer is going!

Enjoy your summer, folks. Until we "connect" again...
