MAY 30: GLORIOUS, WONDERFUL BLUE SKIES

It's been almost 2 weeks since we've had to wear a raincoat! Awesome! Though, that makes the fire danger extremely high. Just hope we have no problems here. There are actually 80 fires right now burning in the state. Vic says that's not a lot of fires; about average. I have a bladder bag now to put out fire rings, or some small little fire. It holds a few gallons of water and I can shoot some awesome distance with it. Yesterday, all was quiet on the home front, so Chris and I decided to drive to South Rolly Campground to see what it looked like. It is totally beautiful. Just look at this lake. I love to get a picture like this with the mountain mirrored in the water. This is South Rolly Lake.

South Rolly Lake.

Can ya believe these kids playing in the water??? Granted it was 78 degrees, but the water just got thawed a few weeks ago. One guy said he went in with his kids but his feet got numb. Too cold for me! When you have such a short summer, the kids have to take what they can get. They were having a ball.

The world's largest sand box. There was lots of fun going on here. They had brought lots of sand in to make a huge mound and then they were going to plant a big mound, etc. when the park was made 30 yrs. ago or so. But the kids all started playing in it, so....they left it to the kids. Off to the rear are all the parents lined up in their chairs, chatting and watching the kids play. I had thought that we had the biggest sand box in our back yard when the old pool had been taken down....but this dwarfs that one.

Chris went fishing the other night, they went fishing for pike, which is a throw away fish here because it is not native and invasive. Here he's cooking up pike steak. He took along a young guy that is part of the trail crew, who is from Indianapolis. Chris is turning into an Alaskan because he went fishing at 8pm and didn't get home until 12:30 am! But why not, it's light out and that's when the fish are biting.

This our communication radio with the rangers, courtesy of Dept of Homeland Security. We get our questions answered quickly. It's just like the cops use.

Here's Chris keeping in tune for the hunting season. He usually gets over there every day at the maintenance compound. A big thank you to all of our active military and veterans who have sacrificed to keep this country free. Especially God bless and protect Matt Myers in Afganistan. Until we connect again.....
