May 25: SUNDAY BROUGHT A GIFT FROM INDIANA

Phil Heitz, a friend from our parish in Waterloo, St. Michael the Archangel, drove into our Willow Creek home on Sunday afternoon with a truly wonderful gift. He was driving this huge motor home and he brouoght it here on a loan for the summer, while we are camp hosts. What a positively fantastic gift. It is like living in the lap of luxury: i.e. Chris doesn't have to get out of bed to let me out, we can walk to the front of it and sit in easy chairs, there is a divided sink to wash dishes in, and on and on. We have to work out a couple of kinks. Minor glytches compared to the luxury of all the room we have.
As you are getting used to....the pictures did not go on the blog as I had intended....so we'll live with it....
We found a cute place in downtown Willow to take Phil out to dinner during his over night stay with us. Willow has one street and it's about 1 mile long; has 2 eating establishments and one was closed. So...open was the Burger Bus. Somewhat of an Alascan icon.

The eating area is a trailer with interesting 3D type of painting around the top. Above are the cook and the watress....truly inside a retired school bus.

The Burger Bus....you can see the trailer/dining area right behind it. To the right is the espresso shop. To order at the Bus, you mearly drive up to the "driver's window", order, and then pull forward to one of the rear windows and they hand it down to you...it's on a hill.

Here's the interior of St. Christopher's Church in Willow. They started out in a mobile home as their church, and in recent years built this beautiful church. I'll find out more in future weeks and tell you about it. I offered to be lector and Eucharistic Minister....so I'll be put to work. I never get to lector at home because I'm always in the choir. This will be a treat.
Very small church: 6 pews on each side.
St. Christopher Church
Here's how "home" looks now. See....we have a "guest room" now.

Here is the entrance to our campground.
Chris made the frame for this map. Here he helps them hang it up.

Here's a map of the campground. The river at the bottom is the Susitna River, and the water comming down from the top left is the Willow Creek slough.

A view of the campground. Slow right now; should get wild this week end.

Another view. The owners of that truck are down fishing. It's catch and release fishing for trout and grayling (a waste if you ask me) and everybody is keeping their eyes out for the King salmon....just a watching for the run to begin....

And Chris cooks our first dinner int he big rig. What a treat. "Moving day" was yesterday....carrying over all the food and clothing. It was a surprise to us how much we had packed into that little pop up. We had lots of hiding spaces....
I have to head down to the maintenance compound now to do some wash.
Until we "connect" again....
